Crafting Your Solar Marketing Program,” on the popular educational platform, HeatSpring. Energy Trust of Oregon made the solar marketing training series available for solar installers earlier this year as part of the nonprofit’s ongoing efforts to reduce solar costs and increase solar installations in Oregon. By offering the training series on HeatSpring more contractors will now have access to them.

HeatSpring is an online training marketplace with a community of more than 45,000 solar and renewable energy professionals from around the world. HeatSpring provides curriculum covering all aspects of residential, commercial and community solar, including design and installation, energy storage, sales and business operation, megawatt design and certification preparation courses. HeatSpring also offers free and paid trainings in green building, passive house, wind, deep energy retrofits and more. The “Build it Bright” training services is facilitated by Glenna Wiseman, principal of Identity3, a nationally recognized solar marketing expert.

As was the case when the program launched earlier this year, the solar marketing training series will be offered at no cost for solar contractors and other interested professionals and students. “Solar contractors spend time and money acquiring their next sale, and those costs can be passed on to customers,” said Jeni Hall, senior solar project manager, Energy Trust. “To help address this challenge we sought training that would make the marketing process more efficient and was tailored specifically to meet the needs of solar contractors. By offering this course through the HeatSpring platform, solar contractors in Oregon can now access this curriculum more easily.”

Built with the intention to help solar installers improve their marketing effectiveness and reduce soft costs related to customer acquisition, this six-part series touches on strategy, campaigns, creative, tools, tracking return on investment and more.

“A huge number of HeatSpring students are, or are working to become, solar professionals. So, we wanted to provide technical and up-to-date solar marketing content with directly applicable information. From designing campaign creative and strategy to tracking ROI, to identifying fruitful markets and everything in between, we’re really excited to share these free courses and grow our students’ interests and skill sets. Working with Identity3 and Energy Trust of Oregon to bring this to fruition has been incredibly rewarding,” said Abigail Thompson, Product Marketing Manager, HeatSpring.

“As we developed this program originally, we took a deep dive into the marketing challenges facing solar installers,” said Glenna Wiseman, Principal of Identity3. “Through the curriculum comprised of webinars, podcasts and free tools, we worked to meet the most pressing marketing demands installers face in the increasingly competitive solar marketplace.”
